Meet the Workspace customers nominated for this year’s Evening Standard Business Awards.

It’s an exciting time indeed for 5 of our very own Workspace customers who were nominated in the Evening Standard Business Awards, 2017.

All five have been put through their paces by the judges, featuring some of the high-flyers of the business world, and were either nominated or shortlisted in categories Tech Startup of the Year, SME of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year.

Workspace are proud of every single one of these customers. So, without further ado, here’s a little more about them.

Getting about

Up for Tech Startup of the Year, Citymapper, based in Workspace Cargo Works, is the go-to app in 40 cities across the world for those who need to get around quickly and with ease. They even launched their own bus service in London in May, as a first step to running their own transport services in the future. We’re all for making navigation simpler, especially if it helps us find the nearest caffeine boost!

Say it with flowers

We all know how lovely it is to receive flowers, and when they come wrapped as beautifully as Bloom & Wild’s huge range of bouquets and posies, it’s a pure delight. It’s founders, Aron Gelrd and Ben Stanway were shortlisted for Entrepreneur of the Year for their letterbox flower delivery that has next day delivery and Apple Pay available for when you need to brighten someone’s day, pronto! Bloom & Wild are based at Workspace Vox Studios.

The best venues

You need only glance at Hire Space’s Instagram feed to know that they offer some of the best venues available for booking. Based in The Biscuit Factory, they are shortlisted for SME (Small and medium-sized enterprises) of the Year. The company has gone from strength to strength, launching in Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool and there’s over 5000 venues available. Now, how do we go about hiring the Tower of London for a birthday bash?

We caught up with Talib Visram, Marketing at Hire Space to find out how it felt to be nominated…

“We're proud to have been nominated for the award, alongside such other strong competitors, many of which are Workspace businesses. We're so happy and thankful – for our staff, stakeholders, and for Workspace, which has been a part of our journey the entire way.

Winning would mean that all our hard work over the years has been recognised. Whether we win or not, it's still a perfect time for us to look back and reflect on our achievements as a company.

We've resided in no fewer than four Workspace offices since we began and we love our current flagship space in Bermondsey's Biscuit Factory; we've been in this big, inspirational space for over a year, and now share it with some other impressive startup companies. More than anything, Workspace offers a supportive network here – not to mention an on-site gym, climbing wall, and cafĂ© with the best breakfast sandwiches for miles.”

Cool creatives

Lucky Generals Based at Exmouth House are, quite simply, cool. They make brilliant ad campaigns for huge companies like Twitter, Amazon and Pot Noodle that are memorable and incredibly effective. Up for SME of the Year, they used a quote from Napoleon to get their name:

"It's a quote by Napoleon. He was asked what it takes to win a war and he replied: ‘Bring me your lucky generals’,” says Founder Helen Calcraft. “We liked the idea of being those generals that clients can send into battle and come back with a win.” They’ve certainly been lucky so far!
