Many small businesses that are looking to develop a new website, or upgrade an existing one, are given huge quotes by web development agencies that run into the thousands – and sometimes tens of thousands – of pounds. Many New and Growing Companies simply can’t afford such astronomical fees.
That’s where MBJ London come in. Based at Canalot Studios, the agency recently ran a successful crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube in order to accelerate the growth of its latest product line: Websites as a Service (WaaS).
Websites as a Service explained
WaaS offers New and Growing Companies the chance to benefit from an industry-leading website and a valuable online presence for a fraction of the cost of high-end agencies.
This unique model played a key role in the impressive haul of investors for MBJ’s crowdfunding campaign, raising a total of £715,000 from over 300 investors – more than doubling their initial target.
“WaaS really resonated with many business owners who have faced this problem time and time again,” said Chris Nobbs, director of partnerships at MBJ London.
“In addition, we received investment from a large number of seasoned angel investors who saw the huge potential in the model, as well as the talent and ambition in our co-founders and management team.”
Networking and relationships at Canalot Studios
MBJ have been based at Canalot Studios for the last 18 months, which is home to around 80 NGCs in close proximity to Portobello Road and the Grand Union Canal.
Chris says that being based in such a bustling business centre gives the agency a big opportunity to meet a raft of potential clients on their doorstep.
“All of the companies in Canalot have their own units, meaning that they tend to be more established than start-ups that are hot-desking in other co-working spaces,” said Chris.
“The Deli on the ground floor of Canalot also provides us with the perfect location to meet other companies in the building, as well as for other meetings, over coffee or lunch.”
Workspace: a platform for MBJ’s industry events
As part of the agency’s marketing and brand awareness strategy, MBJ runs periodic events at other Workspace locations across the capital. They offer free 30-minute Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) consultations to Workspace customers who are interested in finding out what they could be doing better to improve their presence in the search engines.
“So far, these events and consultations have been very successful,” adds Chris. “We are a small but growing company and this offers us a great way to meet new leads and, hopefully, turn them into paying clients.
“And even if they do not, each company that we meet is another that knows about MBJ, and what we do.”
From W10 to worldwide growth
MBJ has flourished impressively beyond the four walls of London too. Just last month, MBJ opened a new office in Berlin, which they plan to use as a base for taking on the German and wider EU markets. Plans are also afoot to open a sales office in Chicago in early 2017 to reach out to businesses in the States.
“Whilst we are confident that with the team we have in place we would be able to impress just about anywhere, being located in a Workspace building has undoubtedly given us a major boost, and helped us get to where we are now, said Chris.”
MBJ are running their next Workspace event on Tuesday 20th September at Grand Union Studios. In addition, any Workspace customer interested in meeting with MBJ for a free 30-minute SEO consultation should contact Chris at email@example.com.
