The Story of Vox Studios
The Story of Vox Studios
Are you team 'love it'? We lift the lid on this former Marmite factory's colourful history. Thankfully its distinctive, tangy smell is a thing of the past but it still upholds a reputation for being a hive of activity and a great place for business to thrive.
Focused around a central courtyard and large contemporary reception area, the newly refurbished building is now home to a raft of the city's fastest growing businesses. Tech start-ups, PR agencies, artisan food brands, and NGOs are just some of the companies that have set up base in the old marmite factory.
And it’s no wonder it’s so popular. With a range of stylish new office and studio spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows that frame impressive skyline views of the City, designated co-working areas and a selection of bookable high-spec meeting rooms to offer, Vox Studios is equipped with everything a new and established company may need to grow.
All Vauxhall has to offer
But to grow at an impressive rate, a well-connected location is key. Luckily, the building stands proud between The Oval – Kennington’s international cricket ground – and Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, conveniently located just a five-minute walk from Vauxhall Station. Here, in a prime location, it can benefit from all London’s fastest changing riverside district has to offer.
Take a short walk up the river and you’ll find Damien Hirst’s award-winning Newport Street Gallery – one of the many big-name artists that have been attracted to the area. Former light industrial spaces, such as Vox Studios itself, are now welcoming a swath of galleries and creative start-ups to the area, giving it a reputation for housing some of the best creatives in London.
And, come night, Vauxhall is still the place to be. Workspace customers at this site have a wealth of established pubs, bars, and eateries on their doorstep. A favorite is Tamesis Dock. This permanently moored barge offers drinks, live music, and even events space. And when the time comes to throw some shapes on the dancefloor, Vauxhall is home to much-loved clubs, Fire and Lightbox.
From beer to Marmite
Turn the clock back to 1927, and Vox Studios was unrecognisable. At this time, The New London Brewery had ceased to function as a brewery on this site, having fallen into liquidation in 1925.
It only seems natural then that Marmite was the company to step up and take over the ex-brewery following its closure – its produce made from beer’s by-product, yeast. The site became a hive of activity as factory workers set to work creating German scientist Justus Von Liebig’s tasty concoction, concentrating and bottling yeast.
Only 25 years old at this point, Marmite acquired Vox Studios as its second plant, having already established its primary site in Burton Upon Trent. The company, in turn, witnessed a boom in production up until the closure of the factory in 1967.
Today, the building has ditched the vats of yeast for hi-spec facilities that cater to modern business needs. It boasts a selection of contemporary office and studio spaces flooded with natural light and ranging from 250 to 960 sq ft., superfast fibre broadband and managed Wi-Fi provided by our selected partner Excell Group, high-spec and bookable meeting rooms with plug and play technology, and CCTV throughout to keep things safe and secure.
Workspace customers who like to keep things green by cycling into work are able to store their bikes in the on-site cycle racks, with shower facilities available to wash away the commuter smog before the day begins.
What’s more, there’s a café on site named Livewire stocked with the best nutritious food and fresh coffee to keep busy minds fueled throughout the day.
