Mimosa’s been nominated in the prestigious ‘Best Independent Café or Coffee Shop of the Year’ award. We’re really proud, because this category promotes the work being done by entrepreneurs to help create and develop successful, independent brands. For Workspace, promoting entrepreneurship has always been a key part of our ethos, so it’s a very suitable category.
The award considers a café or coffee bar to be independent if they have fewer than 10 outlets in total, so Mimosa will be up against some pretty stiff competition. However, we’ve visited more than enough times to know they’ve got a great chance of winning!
Customer experience is going to be a key part of how the nominees are judged, especially as it relates to the atmosphere created in the shop. The standards of service and the range of products offered will also be taken into account, with each of the short-listed cafes and coffee shops receiving an on-site visit from an independent judge.
Mimosa is one of only three cafes to receive a nomination, which is a real endorsement of their great service and just-as-great food and drink.
The other cafes and coffee shops to make it onto the shortlist include:
- Café 1505 – Nicolson St, Edinburgh
- Chandos Deli – George St, Bath
- The Crossing Point Café – Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria
- Mimi’s Bakehouse – 63 Shore, Edinburgh
- No 67 Café & Restaurant – Peckham Road, London
- Timberyard Soho – Noel St, London
- Ziferblat – Edge St, Manchester
But hopefully Mimosa will come away with the award: it’ll be well-deserved if they do. Their killer (and expansive) menu includes everything from delicious veggie-friendly sandwiches (we’d recommend the brie with chilli jam) to the meatiest roast beef wraps. They’ve also got a wide range of drinks, ranging from freshly-made smoothies right through to seriously strong black coffee.
The awards ceremony takes place at The Lancaster Hotel, London, on Wednesday, September 21.
If you’re in the Kennington area, we’d definitely recommend you check out Mimosa, and good luck to the guys at Mimosa – we’re rooting for you!
