In 2015/16, we delivered a number of positive results under the five core pillars of our sustainability strategy.

We have also set a number of challenging future targets in order to ensure continual improvement.

  • Completion of Grand Union development achieving BREEAM Excellent, EPC rating of A and 100% construction waste diverted from landfill
  • The completion of our new Lightbulb site in the year, achieving an EPC rating of B with 99% of non hazardous waste diverted from landfill, 100% forest certified scheme timber sourcing and considerate constructors scoring of 41/50
  • Creation of 3 apprenticeships for young people from challenged backgrounds in partnership with our key suppliers and XLP

Performance Highlights; 

  • Achieved an 11.2% reduction in total energy consumption between 2012-13 and 2015/16.
  • Implementation of our new Optergy BEMS system across the first properties within our portfolio with further roll out planned for the coming year. This will enable us and our customers to better manage and reduce energy consumption across our portfolio
  • Increased our recycling rate across the whole portfolio to 60%
  • Achieving a significant increase in accuracy of waste measurement techniques in the year, enabling us to better understand and manage our waste streams
  • Enhanced waste audit process rolled out, prioritizing sites

  • Facilitating work experience placements for 71 students from 19 schools across London with 59 of our customers as part of this years’ InspireSME week
  • Continued to roll out a programme of networking events and business insight events with partner, Knowledge Peers, to educate customers on topical issues.

Our Targets Include;

  • Continue to expand InspireSME Week
  • Increase commitment to MyBnk programme by funding a minimum of three more programmes in the coming year
  • All sites to have engaged in at least one community-based event in the year, enabling employees and customers to engage with our local communities

  • Increasing our training days per employee to 5.78 (2014/15 : 3.05)
  • Maintained strong diversity statistics across our business, including a 47:53 male : female split and having over 20 nationalities represented across our workforce
  • Maintaining longevity of service from our people with 28 members of staff achieving long service awards in the year
  • Supporting 16 of our employees through external qualifications to help drive their careers forwards
  • Regular employee volunteering with Fareshare, a wonderful charity that collects food waste outside supermarkets, and sorts and distributes it to local charities and community groups
  • 6 Workspace employees raising £17,000 for XLP, one of our charity partners, by climbing Mount Toubaki in Morocco
  • Our Charity Committee donating a total of £35,116 in the year
