The Christmas period isn’t known for rest and relaxation. But keeping calm is the aim of the game this year so here are a few meditation poses that can help crack your back and move your muscles.

Whether you're in Bethnal Green or Clerkenwell, Dulwich or Islington, here are the poses you can strike to stretch.

1. The Airborne Entrepreneur

Sit on the edge of your chair and place your hands on either side of your hips and push down until you lift your legs and bottom off the seat. Keep your shoulders down and hold for three or four breaths. Repeat twice.

Risk evaluation: Imminent threat of toppling over.

2. The Seated Start-up Founder

Keep your spine straight while seated and take a deep breath. Then reach all the way up to the ceiling with your arms open wide. As you breathe out, look up to the ceiling and behind bending your upper back and chest.

Risk evaluation: Distinct possibility of looking mad.

3. The Twisting Techie

Turn to your left and use your left hand placed on the back of the chair to deepen the twist. Hold for five to eight breaths, then repeat on the other side.

Risk evaluation: Slight risk of looking like you’re checking other co-workers out.

4. The Back-Scratching Co-worker

Bring your left arm from down behind your back and your right arm over your shoulder. Clasp your fingers together. Hold for five to eight breaths and switch arms.

Risk evaluation: Wear deodorant.

5. The Folding Freelancer

Place your right foot on your left knee, letting right knee drop as far as you can. Keeping your back straight, lean forward to stretch more. After a few breaths, switch sides.

Risk evaluation: None. It's all happening under your desk. Co-workers will be none the wiser.
