Islington Area Guide

As the central district of the London Borough of Islington, Islington is a thriving and busy area that spans from Islington High Street to Highbury Fields. The district is known for its beautiful architecture – it contains a wealth of listed buildings – and includes Upper Street, a thoroughfare famous for its extensive shopping, dining and drinking facilities. The street is also the site of London’s largest free Wi-Fi zone.

What businesses does Islington suit?

Islington is located closely to City’s financial districts, so businesses with links to the finance industry should consider taking advantage of what it has to offer. Bordered by Camden and Hackney, Islington is also in the middle of a vibrant and upbeat community that offers a variety of entertainment to workers. Companies that want both superior transport links and a wide variety of amenities would also benefit from an Islington location.

Transport

Islington boasts superior transport links offering flexible and regular travel into central London and beyond. With Angel tube station minutes away, businesses have easy access onto the Northern line and from there to the rest of the underground network.

Liverpool Street: 18 minutes
Waterloo: 21 minutes
Euston: 8 minutes

Eating

Due to Islington’s central location and proximity to many of London’s vibrant hotspots, there are some great restaurants on offer serving up a mix of British and World cuisine. Thai restaurant Isarn (119 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 1QP) is well regarded in the area, with impeccable service and an authentic menu. Alternatively Chilango’s (27 Upper Street, Islington, London N1 0PN) offers Mexican dishes that have been regularly reviewed and called the best in London. Takeaway facilities are excellent and diverse, and sandwich shops and delis offer lunchtime opportunities to workers.

Going Out

As a central district, Islington benefits from a diverse range of pubs and bars designed to suit all tastes. The Warwick (45 Essex Road, London, N1) is a popular local bar with resident DJ on hand from Thursdays until Sundays. Alternatively The Castle (54 Pentonville Rd, London, N1 9HF) is a relaxed pub with a great jukebox system and friendly staff. When you’re ready to hit the town, Lark in the Park (60 Copenhagen Street, London, N1 0JW) is an independently run bar offering a combination of trendy live music and competitively priced cocktails.
